Confraternity of San Giovanni Decollato

The Church of San Giovanni Decollato was built inside in the mid-seventeenth century, under the imposing walls of the Ricetto, now nicknamed Piazza Umberto I. The construction of this place of worship finds its main reason in the desire to host the Confraternity of Mercy, established in Murazzano in the period in which plague epidemics were frequent.

The Confraternity (called “Battuti Neri” due to the black hood) was first located in San Rocco and later, in 1635, in the underground chapel (the Crypt) of the famous Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Hal.

Church of San Rocco

The Church of San Rocco was most likely built at the entrance to the town towards Belvedere, on the occasion of the frequent epidemics that struck the fourteenth or fifteenth century.
This monument has three particularly interesting features.
The first corresponds to the two faces of Medusa in sandstone fixed on the facade. A representation that does not respond to architectural needs, but which testifies to the desire to preserve local relics from the Roman era. The second coincides with the restored interior frescoes dating back to the 15th / 16th century.
The last, but certainly not least, is the Latin inscription dated June 15, 1515 located at the entrance to the building. It is a reminder of the restoration work carried out by the mayors of the Community Giovanni Brocardo and Seb astiano Ferrero.
